THE FAMILY OF BERTHE MORISOT

Morisot painting.

This painting of Julie Manet as a little girl is just one of many in which Morisot captured the experiences of her daughter's childhood. Her husband, Eugene, was a less frequent subject, usually appearing in works with their daughter, including Eugene Manet and his daughter in the garden at Bougival (1881) and Eugene Manet and his daughter in the garden (1883).

(below) Shortly after they married, Morisot painted Eugene Manet on the Isle of Wight (1875), a rare lone study of her husband.
