The main branch of the New York Public Library. Open to the public in 1911, this research library is one of four within the library system and a National Historical Landmark.
. . . My earliest memory is from a day in January, just after my baby sister came home from the hospital. I am sitting on the concrete stoop and the green space next to our duplex community sparkles with snow. Just past my feet there is a tiny snowman that my mother made; its eyes are two small pieces of cinnamon candy and they are slowly staining the snow a deep rose red.
