SUMMER 2024
OF CHILDREN
A firefly display in the twilight tonight.
The park pathway where I walk
fills with bright yellow diamonds
on gray faerie wings,
Wild starry hordes in shadows,
among grasses,
along slopes,
brushing across my hands and my feet.
I recall another twilight and another place.
Fireflies dance over meadow grass
and my children,
so young fledglings,
darting through shadows,
sparklers aloft,
the gloaming alive
with their cries and their light.

Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end.
